Our dogs and puppies must be met in person at our SPCA branch before applying to adopt. Bookings cannot be done telephonically, but you are very welcome to call for more info about any of our animals or the adoption process.

Adoption Fee

Please come into the branch and complete the relevant application forms in person.

Adoption fees for both cats and dogs include sterilisation, the first vaccination, de-worming, an ID disc and a collar.

  • Dogs and puppies: R700. Includes sterilisation, 1st vaccination, dewormer, collar and disc
  • Cats and kittens: R600 includes sterilisation, 1st vaccination, dewormer
  • Microchipping of SPCA adopted animal: R150
  • Microchipping on private pet: R250

PLEASE NOTE: Puppies & Kittens too young to sterilise may only be homed in the Germiston and Bedfordview area, and incur an additional R400 refundable deposit, which is refunded on proof of sterilisation.

When applying to adopt a pet, please note that a non-refundable deposit of R100 is required, which is included in the total adoption fee.

* Please note that the SPCA policy is that kittens & puppies, 3 months & under can only be adopted in the Germiston, Bedfordview area.

What happens next?

Once you’ve chosen which dog or cat you’d like to adopt, one of our pre-placement inspectors will visit your home.

This ensures that your property and environment is suitable for the animal concerned.

We take into account:

  • Other animals in the family.
  • Children’s ages.
  • Level of familiy’s activity (whether the dog will be regularly exercised)
  • How long the dog, especially a puppy, will be left alone.
  • Size of property.

The following are also considered as criteria for adoption:

  • You must be over 18 to adopt.
  • Your property must be fully enclosed.
  • The pet must be allowed inside your house.
  • You must be able to afford a private vet and have transport to take your pet to the vet.

  • General Information
    The society for the prevention of cruelty to Animals SPCA Germiston and Bedfordview. We believe that the value of animals, as living creatures, exceeds economic measure. They are entitled to legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection. We exist as an advocate for animals, obtaining rights for them and to protect and enforce their rights. We strongly believe in cultivating a community with an awareness of animals (whose world we share) and respect for all living creatures.
    We do not have a vet on our premises, and are unable to assist privately owned animals with vetinary care.
  • Mission
    The primary function of SPCA Germiston/Bedfordview is the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. We educate our community on how to best care for their pets, investigate cruelty complaints, and where required, prosecute under the Animals Protection Act. We are a registered non-profit non-government organization affiliated to the National Council of SPCA’s. The SPCA Germiston and Bedfordview operates the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality pound, giving owners a 7 day grace period to claim their pets. Proof of ownership is required. Thereafter, and when possible, these animals will be made available for adoption.
