Our adoption process begins with a comprehensive adoption application that needs to be completed. This helps us eliminate unsuitable dogs, and to shortlist the ones who we believe would best suit your lifestyle.
Once the application has been received, processed and approved, an appointment is set up for you to visit our centre to meet our dogs. Our caregivers, who work with our dogs on a daily basis, will introduce you to the dogs in their care, and explain in detail their behavior patterns and personality characteristics.
The next step is a friendly visit to your home by our adoptions manager who will meet your family and any existing pets to ensure that the home is suitable and secure.
Once the home check is successfully completed, and a suitable dog has been selected, we arrange a “meet and greet” at the Dogtown Centre with the chosen doggy and your existing dogs, to make sure everybody gets along.
We do ask for a donation / adoption fee to help us cover the cost of sterilisation, vaccinations, deworming and microchipping, all of which is done before a dog goes to his/her new forever home.
Going home is the fun part! Each adopted dog is taken to his or her new home by their respective caregiver, along with a booklet containing their likes and dislikes. In the adoption folder is a contract that must be signed by the adoptive parent and the Dogtown SA representative.
An important clause in this contract states that should the family at any time be unable to care for their adopted dog, for whatever reason, the dog must be returned to Dogtown SA. We commit to our dogs for life.
